What is Brainspotting?

Brainspotting is a neural-physiological release method used to rewire emotional trauma in the brain. As a brainspotting psychotherapist, I assist you to process underlying traumas causing distress, anxiety, depression and limitations in functioning. It's a safe method, which allows the processing of trauma to complete in a non-traumatizing way, by accessing areas of the brain and body where trauma reactions are held outside of normal day to day consciousness. Because trauma reactions are held on a neural physiological level in the body, talk therapy alone is usually not effective in resolving the trauma conflict, which can underly many problems including chronic depression, anxiety, social anxiety, panic episodes, under-achievement etc.

How does it work?

Focusing your eyes on particular points, near and far, side to side, and up and down, we determine which points resonate with certain awarenesses of inner feelings and thoughts. By using these points to stabalize awareness, we explore the issues presented in combination with other therapeutic and healing techniques. This focused awareness catalyses the therapeutic process.

Who can benefit from Brainspotting?

Chronic untreated trauma can have a devastating effect on the quality of our life. Most individuals experience multiple small traumas throughout childhood and in the process of growing up. This can have significant limiting effects on our ability to access our full functioning potential. Our reactions to traumas include developing limiting beliefs about ourselves and the world, as well as physiological patterns that can include anxiety, anxious insecurity, and depression. Chronic trauma and emotional distress can lead to low self-esteem, lack of confidence in our abilities, decreased ability to provide adequately for our financial needs, loss of job promotions, limitations in our academic abilities, and even success in our social lives.
